School excellence framework

The School Excellence Framework supports all NSW public schools in their pursuit of excellence by providing a clear description of the key elements of high-quality practice across the three domains of learning, teaching and leading.

Key features of the School Excellence Framework

The Framework will help schools engage their communities in identifying strategic directions, decide on improvement measures, and assess their progress. Schools will:

  • develop their own plans by consulting with their school communities to develop a shared vision
  • self-assess and report annually on their progress, and
  • within a five-year cycle, have their self-assessment validated against the Framework by a panel made up of two highly experienced principals.

The Framework is based on a review of national and international practice at the system, school and classroom level, including the National School Improvement Tool developed by the Australian Council for Educational Research.

While Local Schools, Local Decisions, Great Teaching, Inspired Learning, the Resource Allocation Model and the Rural and Remote Blueprint for Action form a roadmap for reform, this Framework provides a guide for each school to monitor its progress and drive further improvements.
